Failing The Taste Test ..

The questionable Poitou …

As you may have seen by now if you follow my blog regularly, I do get to meet some amazing birds, animals and creatures in my line of work.

Most of the characters I meet are curious and inquisitive, after all, I am in THEIR world, often in their habitats, and they must wonder what on earth I am. I certainly don’t look like a parrot penguin, an ocelot or a leopard.

Now most of the animals realise this from scent or from a simple once over from the other side of the enclosure, but now and again I come across one that needs a little more convincing that I am definitely NOT one of them!

On this particular occasion, this Poitou wandered closer and closer, and I stayed calm and quiet, as is the always the way to behave in these situations.

Even closer he crept .. he could definitely see and smell me by now I thought. That should be that.

But no.

He decided to try to take a chunk out of my hip to see if I passed the taste test.

I can confirm that I failed that test miserably.

The Pitou is basically a huge donkey, which originated in France, and only 20 years ago the Poitou donkey faced extinction. Thanks to huge conservation efforts they are now safe.
